GRP Flat Roof Installation Leeds
A flat roof should keep the space below it dry without becoming something you worry about every time heavy rain arrives. If yours is leaking, blistering, holding water or has already been patched more than once, it might be the right time to find out whether another repair is worthwhile or replacement makes more sense.
DDK Roofing provides flat roof installations Leeds homeowners, landlords and businesses can rely on. We specialise in GRP fibreglass roofing for garages, extensions, dormers, porches, bay windows, outbuildings and suitable commercial buildings across Leeds and West Yorkshire.
We never start with the assumption that you need a new roof. We inspect the existing covering, deck, edges and drainage first. If a flat roof repair is the sensible option, we will say so. If replacement is needed, you receive a fixed written quote explaining the roofing work before the job starts.

What Is GRP Fibreglass Roofing?
GRP stands for Glass Reinforced Plastic the same material used in boat hulls, water storage tanks and aerospace components, chosen for one reason: it is seamless, fully waterproof and extraordinarily durable.
Unlike traditional felt flat roofing, which relies on overlapping layers and heat-welded joins, a fibreglass flat roof is a single continuous surface. No joints. No laps. No seams where water can track through.
Once installed correctly it is essentially impervious to water. That is why it carries a 25 year manufacturer-backed guarantee — and why it is now the most specified flat roofing system for residential properties across West Yorkshire.
Flat Roof Leeds: Why Do We Recommend GRP?
For many flat roof Leeds projects, GRP fibreglass roofing is the system we recommend. The finished surface is continuous rather than relying on overlapping felt joints, making it particularly useful on garages, extensions, dormers and bay roofs where edges, upstands and wall junctions need careful waterproof detailing.
A completed DDK GRP system carries a 25-year manufacturer-backed guarantee, alongside our workmanship guarantee.
The roofing material is only part of the job, though. A new covering cannot correct a damp, soft or damaged deck that has simply been covered over. Preparing the surface underneath is one of the most important stages of a good installation.
Where We Install GRP Flat Roofs in Leeds
Fibreglass roofing is suitable for any flat or low-pitch surface on a residential or commercial property.
- Garage roofs — the most common installation across Leeds. Flat garage roofs covered in ageing felt are one of the most frequently replaced surfaces we work on.
- Kitchen and utility room extension roofs — where waterproofing performance matters most, given the living space directly beneath.
- Bay window roofs — Victorian bay windows across Leeds have small flat roof sections at their crown that are disproportionately prone to failure given their exposure.
- Dormer cheeks and tops — dormers require fully watertight detailing at every junction. GRP handles complex dormer geometry far better than any alternative flat roofing system.
- Porch roofs — often neglected, often failing, and straightforward to transform.
- Flat-roofed extensions and outbuildings — any structure with a flat deck benefits from seamless waterproofing.
- Commercial flat roofs — offices, retail units and industrial buildings across West Yorkshire where roof performance directly affects business continuity.
You do not need to know which roofing system you currently have before contacting us.
We inspect ageing felt roofing, EPDM rubber and other existing flat roof coverings. Localised damage may sometimes be suitable for repair. Widespread cracking, blistering, failed joints, persistent leaks or damaged decking can make replacement the more cost-effective route.
Our flat roof installation service focuses on GRP fibreglass roofing. We will explain whether GRP suits your property rather than pretending every roofing material is right for every job.

The DDK GRP Installation Process
Survey and Free Quote
We visit your property, assess the existing flat roof deck and structure, confirm the correct specification and give you a fixed written quote. The visit costs nothing and carries no obligation whatsoever.
Deck Preparation
A fibreglass roof is only as good as the deck beneath it. We remove all existing roofing material, inspect the plywood or OSB deck for moisture damage or soft spots and replace any compromised boards. The surface is left clean, dry and level before any GRP material is applied. This step is where corners are cut by less experienced installers. We do not cut corners here.
Fibreglass Lamination
We apply a catalysed polyester resin base coat to the prepared deck, followed immediately by chopped strand fibreglass matting. In plain terms: the mat bonds directly into the resin and is fully wetted out and consolidated across every inch of the surface no air pockets, no dry areas. Once cured, a second resin coat encapsulates the mat completely, forming a continuous, fully bonded shell across the entire roof.
Topcoat Application
The final stage is the application of a pigmented gel coat topcoat in your chosen colour. This provides UV protection for the laminate beneath, gives the roof its finished appearance and is the surface that carries the 25 year manufacturer-backed guarantee.
Trim and Detailing
All edges, upstands, junctions with walls and abutments are finished with GRP trim profiles and fully laminated upstands. These details are critical. A roof that is perfectly installed across the flat field but poorly detailed at the edges will still allow water in at the perimeter. We finish every junction with the same care as the main field.
GRP Flat Roofing vs Traditional Felt — The Honest Comparison
Felt flat roofing
Installed using overlapping layers, heat-welded or torch-applied. Joints and laps are the weakest points. Typically lasts 10 to 15 years in West Yorkshire conditions before the system starts to degrade. Requires periodic inspection and can blister, crack and separate at seams. Lower upfront cost — but higher lifetime cost when replacement frequency is factored in.
GRP fibreglass roofing
Fully seamless single-surface installation. No joints or laps. Unaffected by UV degradation. Does not blister, crack at seams or separate. Typically lasts 25 years at minimum with the guarantee to match — and frequently significantly longer. Higher upfront cost but lower lifetime cost. The preferred flat roofing system for Leeds residential and commercial properties.
What Happens During a Flat Roof Installation?
Survey and Roof Assessment
We inspect the existing roof, including the covering, deck, outlets, edges, upstands and wall junctions. We also consider drainage, access and any signs of water damage.
If the source or extent of a problem is unclear, our professional roof inspection service can help establish what is happening before larger roofing work is agreed.
Tell us at the survey stage if you are considering rooflights, solar panels or other alterations. They can affect how the roof needs to be prepared and detailed.
Removing the Existing Roofing Material
Where replacement is required, the old covering is removed so we can see the deck properly.
Soft, damp or compromised boards are replaced rather than hidden underneath new roofing materials. Covering significant damage can create further problems and affect the structural integrity of the finished roof.
Installing the GRP Fibreglass
Once the deck is clean, dry and level, resin and fibreglass matting are applied to form the waterproof GRP layer.
The roof is then finished with its protective topcoat.
Edges, Upstands and Wall Junctions
Edges and junctions may only account for a small part of a roof, but they are common places for water to get in.
GRP trims are used around the perimeter, while upstands and abutments are carefully finished where the roof meets walls or other parts of the property.
Our skilled team aims to complete the job with minimal disruption while giving these details the time they need.

Frequently Asked Questions
A correctly installed fibreglass flat roof carries a 25 year manufacturer-backed guarantee and frequently lasts significantly longer. The key word is correctly installed — proper deck preparation, correct resin-to-hardener ratios, full mat consolidation and watertight edge detailing are all essential. Shortcuts in any of these stages reduce the lifespan of the system. We do not take shortcuts.
GRP is suitable for the vast majority of flat and low-pitch roof surfaces including garages, extensions, bay windows, dormers, porches and commercial buildings. The main requirement is a sound, solid deck to laminate onto. We assess deck condition at survey stage and confirm suitability before any commitment is made.
Most residential GRP flat roof installations in Leeds are completed within one to two days depending on size and complexity. A standard single garage roof is typically a one-day job. Larger or more complex roofs with multiple upstands and abutments take longer. We give you a realistic programme at quote stage.
GRP requires relatively little roof maintenance, but it should not simply be forgotten once installed.
Keep roof outlets and nearby guttering clear, especially after autumn leaf fall. After severe weather, look for obvious changes around trims, edges or anything passing through the roof.
If you notice standing water, staining inside the house or damage to the roof surface, arrange an inspection before moisture has a chance to spread.
A simple visual check can often pick up small repairs while they are still straightforward.
The gel coat topcoat is available in a range of colours. Light grey and slate grey are the most popular choices for Leeds residential properties. We bring samples to the quote visit so you can make a decision that suits your property before installation begins.
Yes. Our team are trained and certified GRP installers with over two decades of flat roofing experience across Leeds. Fully insured, independently verified and happy to share all documentation before we start work.
There is no single price that works for every roof. Various factors affect the cost, including:
- Overall roof area;
- Condition of the existing deck;
- Removal and disposal of the old covering;
- Insulation and energy-efficiency requirements;
- Number of outlets, upstands and abutments;
- Scaffolding and access;
- Shape and complexity of the roof.
This is why we do not rely on a low square-metre figure before seeing the job. Installing GRP onto a sound garage deck is very different from stripping a failed roof and replacing water-damaged boards.
Our approach is based on transparent pricing. You receive a fixed, itemised quotation covering the agreed materials, labour and scope, helping you avoid hidden costs later.
Building regulations may apply to some roof replacement work, particularly where insulation or thermal performance is affected.

On one of the jobs there was some unforeseen work that needed to be done before Danny could continue, this was highlighted straight away by himself and not just brushed over so that he could continue with his high standard of work.
There has never been an issue with any of Danny’s work, extremely reliable, clean and polite.

Communication was clear throughout the entire project and they went above and beyond to ensure that our roof was prepared for all conditions whilst working to the constraints and considerations of being in a conversation area.
They worked seamlessly with our other onsite contractors to coordinate timings and strategies whilst being considerate of our area and neighbours throughout the project too. Highly recommend DDK!

Thanks Danny for a job well done, the solar Velux is fantastic and has made a real improvement to our home.

The job was completed as planned. The team were brilliant, all very friendly and hard working, despite the very hot weather! The clean up after completion was every bit as good as the job itself. We would definitely recommend DDK and will be using them again in the future.
